Our Staff

Des Oram : Veterinarian - Massey 1970

Des Oram is the founding member of the practice. He has many years of practical experience in both the Dairy and Equine sectors. If Des isn't on duty, you could probably find him out in the waters of the Coromandel trying to catch that 'big one'.

Kevin Rooney : Veterinarian - Massey 1976

Kevin joined the practice in 1996 after a spell with MAF and NWVS Huntly. Kevin’s veterinary interests are with Dairy medicine and production, along with equine stud work. Outside of work he enjoys an afternoon fishing, or watching most sports.

Margaret is the practice's foreign vet hailing from Scotland (not England). She graduated from Glasgow University in 2001 and has been in New Zealand ever since. Margaret worked in Morrinsville for two years doing purely dairy work before being poached by the upstanding members of Te Aroha Vets. When Margaret isn’t working she spends her spare time at the gym or out running, and helping her partner on the farm.

Kylie van Ras: Veterinarian - Massey 2006

Originally from a sheep and beef farm at Waingaro, Kylie completed a science degree at Otago University. Kylie traveled the world for two years before ending up at Massey University to start a new career as a vet. Her interests are equally divided between her husband Johan, gorgeous son Blake, squash, farming, fishing & chocolate.

Gina Booker : Office Manager

Gina grew up in Ruawai (Northland) on a dairy farm, 8 years ago she escaped the barren north with her family, ending up on another dairy farm in Elstow. Gina has worked at the vets for six years, really enjoying the atmosphere & character of the clinic. Gina is responsible for debtors and creditors, stock control and all the behind the scenes stuff. In her spare time she enjoys fishing… and loves shopping!

Lisa also recently joined the team. I have worked in the veterinary profession for the past 10 years in several practices throughout Northland and North Waikato. In my spare time I enjoy breeding and showing western horses and lifestyle farming.

In her spare time she plays hockey for Cobras, goes to the gym, socialises with the young farmers club, and travels around NZ.

Katy Jones : Veterinarian Massey 2010

Katy graduated from Massey in 2011. Since joining us here in Te Aroha, she has shown great potential as a mixed practice vet. She is equally at home dealing with cats and dogs as she is with cows. Katy has her own dog Rufus, and loves walking him come rain or shine. In her spare time, Katy keeps herself busy playing netball, planning trips, tramping and skiing.

Carmen was born and bred in Te Aroha district, and has not long got back to NZ after 3 years on the Gold Coast. You will see Carmen's smiley face behind the front desk, or hear her at the end of the phone. In her spare time Carmen enjoys shopping, horse riding and home DIY.
