Euthanasia

Saying farewell to your much loved family pet is never easy. As loving pet owners this is the hardest decision we can be faced with. Once you have made your decision to euthanize your pet, our clinic will accommodate your needs and wishes as best we can. It is your choice if you would like to be present in the room while the euthanasia is performed.

Some people prefer to stay with their pet until the very end, while others find it too painful. We can also arrange home visits if this is preferred. If you do decide to stay with your pet, the veterinarian will discuss the process with you and prepare you for what will happen, and what can be expected.

Once your pet has been euthanized, another decision to make is your preferred method of care of his/her remains. You will have the option to bring your pet home for burial, or cremation, with or without the ashes being returned to you. If ashes are not required the pet is sent to Pet Farewells in Hamilton and is cremated. Their ashes are scattered on a rose garden at the crematorium which can be visited by the public.
